Storytelling Photography
Story time! One of the pure joys of storytelling photography is having the freedom to use lighting to create an image(s) that compliment the story behind the assignment.
This portrait for Sports Illustrated is of Cooper Brannan. He was in the SD Padres system after serving in the military. During his tour Cooper lost his pinky finger on his left hand (count ’em there are only 4 digits). Fortunately it was not his pitching hand. The way that he naturally adjusted his ball cap had the one two punch of a double play the way it spoke baseball and military. I also enjoyed balancing studio lighting with the available daylight.
